{"id":185,"date":"2021-05-07T04:28:04","date_gmt":"2021-05-07T04:28:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coolermetro.com\/cool\/?page_id=185"},"modified":"2021-10-14T18:05:09","modified_gmt":"2021-10-14T18:05:09","slug":"how-to-shut-down-your-cooler","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/coolermetro.com\/cool\/resources\/how-to-shut-down-your-cooler\/","title":{"rendered":"How to shut down your cooler"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><\/h1>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h1 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>How to shut down your cooler:<\/strong><\/h1>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Freeze Warning!<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 If your cooler has the water hooked up, and it&#8217;s about to freeze outside (32 degrees), you need to protect your cooler now!\u00a0 These are the steps you should take to winterize your cooler.\u00a0 These 4 steps are from the ground and will help minimize any serious freeze damage to your cooler.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0Turn the top, &#8220;house spigot&#8221; knob off all the way.<br \/>\n<strong>2.<\/strong>\u00a0 Turn the bottom, &#8220;hose adaptor knob&#8221; on all the way and remove any hoses.<br \/>\n<strong>3.<\/strong>\u00a0 Run your cooler in a &#8220;cool&#8221; or &#8220;pre-cool&#8221; mode so the cooler is trying to use water for about 10 minutes.<br \/>\n<strong>4.<\/strong>\u00a0 Turn your cooler off.\u00a0 If your cooler has a drain button on your thermostat, push it.<br \/>\nThese are the minimum steps to take in the event of freezing temperatures.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-163 aligncenter\" style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 1rem;\" src=\"http:\/\/coolermetro.com\/cool\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Spigot-adaptor-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coolermetro.com\/cool\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Spigot-adaptor-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coolermetro.com\/cool\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Spigot-adaptor.jpg 397w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Expanded shutdown instructions:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Step 1:\u00a0 Turn off the water to the cooler.<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a copper (usually) waterline, about the diameter of a pencil, that runs from the cooler to the hook-up location.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0If your waterline is connected to a spigot adaptor, remove your hose(s).\u00a0 Leave the T valve open.\u00a0 Instead, turn off the house spigot knob\u2026It was supposed to be on all summer.\u00a0 Then turn on the hose spigot adaptor knob all the way. \u00a0\u00a0If you have a spigot adaptor, you may remove it and store it in the cooler for next season.\u00a0 The cooler waterline may be hooked up to a sprinkler pipe (or possibly a pipe indoors) with a saddle valve that has a T handle.\u00a0 If so, turn the T valve until it is completely closed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:\u00a0 Loosen the copper line.<\/strong>\u00a0 If your water is hooked up to a T valve instead of a spigot adaptor, you must undo the copper line to allow the water to drain.\u00a0 Copper lines can usually be loosened with a small adjustable wrench and a \u00bd\u201d wrench.\u00a0 If you can&#8217;t get it loose from the spigot adaptor, at least do the next step to minimize any freeze danger.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:\u00a0 Turn on your cooler at the thermostat.<\/strong>\u00a0 Set the cooler to run in the cool mode with the pump on.\u00a0 This will allow the float seal to relax and relieve the pressure\/vacuum in the waterline.\u00a0 Some water may run out of the tube at this time.\u00a0 The rest of the steps listed below require roof access.\u00a0 The idea is to run the cooler for long enough to initiate the pre-cool cycle, allowing the float and solenoid valves to open.\u00a0 On AeroCool ProStats, press the \u201cdrain\u201d button, wait 2 minutes, then shut off your thermostat power button. On BreezAir coolers with AutoDrain systems, turn off the thermostat with the power button.\u00a0 Your cooler will automatically drain 3-4 hours after power-off, or you can follow the steps below.\u00a0 The rest of the steps listed below require roof access.\u00a0 See Step 6 regarding draining.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4:\u00a0 Disconnect the waterline at the cooler.<\/strong>\u00a0 Try not to disturb the float alignment or loosen the float fittings, only the waterline fitting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5:\u00a0 Blow the waterline out to remove all the water.<\/strong>\u00a0 Reconnect it at the cooler.\u00a0 Leave it disconnected at the hookup source.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 6:\u00a0 Drain the cooler.\u00a0<\/strong> On metal coolers and older BreezAir coolers drain the cooler by removing the drain stem.\u00a0 Leave the drain in the cooler for next season.\u00a0 On BreezAir coolers with auto drains, do not remove the drain.\u00a0 Instead, drain the cooler by pushing the drain button on a remote controlled BreezAir cooler.
